![]() ![]() It's very hypothetical, but even assuming R&C is maxing out PS5-level I/O, there are a number of levers a PC port could pull to make it work with more constrained storage bandwidth, without requiring super-high speed ssds. What do you do next, get Steam/EGS to implement a store mechanism where it's impossible to buy it if you don't have Directstorage support (windows 7 users) or a fast enough NVME? Just imagining an executive meeting where this discussion takes place makes me doubt they'd go forward with it. ![]() Even if they write it in the spec it's going to be a PR shitshow ("My SSD was good enough for game X!"). ![]() I can't even find the ratio of NVME SSDs in the Steam hardware survey.įor a game like Demon's Souls where the only impact is load time when getting killed or starting level it's not a big deal, but if it's integral to the gameplay it's not optional. The problem with putting out a game like this on PC isn't that a high-end PC with a fast PCIE 4.0 NVME SSD won't be able to cut it, it's that there's a ton of PCs out there with classical hard drives and older SATA SSDs that won't cut it. I was actually waiting on more Directstorage info before upgrading my PC, seems like it wasn't warranted so far (not paying a cent above MSRP for parts, but that's another story).
